Alberta's successful privatization of its Liquor Board a dozen or so years ago has made little impression in Ontario: the Liberals rejected outright the report they commissioned on possible privatization a couple of years ago. Mark Sutcliffe recently revived the subject in the Ottawa Citizen and the arguments in favour are as compelling as ever.
"You didn't have to be Roman to believe in Bacchus this summer. You just had to be an Ontario grape grower." So says the Globe's wine man Beppi Crosariol on the 2006 crop in Niagara. BC's Okanagan has also had great weather.
Sunny warm and dry conditions persisted into the crucial September harvest time and are continuing into October for the later ripening varieties. According to Beppi, it looks set to be a banner year.
