Chardonn...gay?

Daniel Lenko Estate Winery is located in Beamsville and when you drive in, you'll probably smile: it's a modest postwar bungalow and the tasting room is in the kitchen.

Lenko has access to some of the oldest vinifera vines in Niagara and is a skilled winemaker - many of his top line wines are very pricey and sell out completely without ever hitting a retail shelf.

He has released Chardonngay - a 2007 unoaked chardonnay complete with rainbow flag inspired label. It was made "in celebration of Canada's diverse gay culture. $1.00 from every bottle sold will be donated to AIDS research."

Read this article in the Globe about marketing products and services to gays... there's an interview with Daniel about Chardonngay.

The wine is available only at the winery and costs $19.95.

Daniel Lenko Chardonngay 2007
VQA Niagara Peninsula
Big and fresh nose with apple, lemon and some tropical notes including pineapple. Dry and quite full on the palate for an unoaked. Good crisp acidity and not a hint of roundness even though there's  big ripe fruit. There's more apple, citrus and pineapple on the palate - maybe even some papaya. The finish is smooth and lingering. This is a solid Ontario chard - are you man enough for it? 88 points.
