San Francisco-based Vinfolio was established a few years ago and is an online wine store. The company has been developing a wine trading platform that will launch in July. This is an exciting new development for wine collectors and seems like it will be a lot easier and more flexible than the auction structure.
Trading wines is illegal in Canada - even our one commercial auction at Ritchies is run under the auspices of the LCBO and the only other auctions are run by charities. It will be interesting to see how the liquor boards across the country react if Canadian collectors want to get in on Vinfolio. If you read this report on Bloomberg News you'll learn that one Montreal-based customer is very excited about trading his wines online...
