Parker: Judgement in Paris

A former associate of RP's has been pursuing a claim of "defamation" against Robert Parker for a couple of years now following comments Parker made publicly about her legal problems in a fraud case.

Hanna Agostini did the French translations of Parker's books for a number of years and then published an unauthorized and unflattering biography of Parker. If your French is good, the reader comments are interesting...

In 2007, Agostini became embroiled in a fraud case that has yet to be resolved, and Parker inveighed against her on his website. The comments have long since been removed, but Agostini's lawyers argue they violated her "presumtion of innocence."

A judge ruled in Agostini's favour in 2008 and slapped a fine of €2,000 (C$3,100) on Parker, but a second lawsuit relating to the same matter has now wound its way through the system and Parker must go before a judge on July 10.

There's a little more detail in this Decanter article from last September.
