At a certain well known winery in the south Okanagan this summer I told the woman behind the counter that I'd like to order some wines for delivery, "but I live in Ontario, so you can't ship them to me." She laughed and said "We don't care, we'll ship anywhere. We do it all the time."
Well the LCBO and its Manitoba counterpart have now ganged up on British Columbia and insisted that BC's wineries stop shipping directly to consumers in their respective provinces - which are the exclusive domains of the monopolies for most wines.
It seems the BC wineries have been cowed into submission and are curtailing or stopping their out-of-province shipments.
Adding further details on this scandal, the Globe's Beppi Crosariol has looked into the situation and determined it to be nothing less than a hypocritical revenue grab by the LCBO.
