In these brief video podcasts Christian Moueix provides extremely useful information about weather and crop conditions in Bordeaux and the challenges facing winemakers. Moueix adds information about marketing as well... and completely charms the woman who interviews him about 2007.
A summary of the summary:
2007: There was not enough sun, so good wines were only possible with serious crop thinning to reduce yields to help the grapes achieve ripeness. So "make sure there's not a whole lot of what you buy" is probably the takeaway from Moueix's 2007 vintage summary.
2006: Good at the beginning of the summer, but disappointing August – “you need a great August for a great wine,” says Christian. September started well, but there was too much rain later, which did some damage and reduced alcohol levels. Overall good vintage with a few very good wines is the upshot of Moueix's 2006 vintage summary.
